Ea Torrado and Joy Alpuerto Ritter join forces in the creation of "Roots / Routes." This work-in-progress showing and artist talk offer a glimpse into the collaboration of two remarkable dance artists shaping the landscape of dance in the Philippines.
Dance, as an art form, transcends geographical boundaries, weaving together cultural influences and personal narratives to create a tapestry of movement and emotion. In the heart of this intricate weave lie Ea Torrado and Joy Alpuerto Ritter, two dancer-choreoagraphers whose artistic endeavors intersect in a dynamic exploration of roots (home, community, support system) and routes (direction, paths, visioning).
About the Artists:
Joy Alpuerto Ritter
Hailing from Berlin, Joy Alpuerto Ritter's dance journey traverses continents, leaving an indelible mark on stages worldwide. With a repertoire that includes performances with renowned companies like Akram Khan Company, Cirque du Soleil, and Wang Ramirez, Joy's artistry transcends boundaries. Her award-winning solo piece, "Babae," draws inspiration from the enigmatic "Witch Dance" by Mary Wigman, blending Philippine folk dance, classical training, contemporary expressions, and the vocabulary of hip-hop and voguing. Through "Babae," Joy explores the mystical practices of womanhood, redefining ritual and power with every movement.
Ea Torrado
Founder of the innovative Daloy Dance Company in the Philippines, Ea Torrado is a force to be reckoned with in the realm of contemporary dance. Trained rigorously in classical ballet before venturing into contemporary performance rituals, Ea's artistry defies convention. She weaves storytelling, interdisciplinary collaborations, and various movement techniques into Daloy Dance Company's compelling repertoire. Recently, the company presented "Itiklandia," a poignant ode to the natural world, at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Ea's multidimensional approach to healing artistry blends body, voice, ritual, and storytelling, inviting audiences into transformative experiences.
