"Daloy Movement practices are essential for fostering self-discovery, building confidence, and promoting body positivity in individuals who are new to dance or apprehensive about it, they offer a holistic and inclusive approach to personal growth, well-being, and self-acceptance, making them especially valuable for those who are new to dance or hesitant to embrace it. " - Brian Abano
Contemporary dance artist Brian Abano recently took the spotlight at UP Diliman, offering an insightful Daloy Movement workshop. This engaging session, part of the same program as Julienne Depatillo's workshop, unfolded on December 4, skillfully curated under the care of the visionary Prof. Rina Corpus.
Can we build and explore the intersections of art, academia, and mindful movement in our school spaces? - this is a question we are sitting with.
Brian's teaching style, much like the essence of Daloy Movement, offered participants a unique experience. His guidance led them through a journey of self-expression and relaxation, adding another chapter to the growing narrative of Daloy's impact on the UP Diliman community.
We are excited about bringing Daloy Movement to the forefront of UP Diliman's and other universities' cultural and academic landscape. We hope to have more people like Prof. Corpus who are dedicated to fostering a space for mindful movement and self-discovery through experience-based, embodiment workshops.
We asked Brian some questions about the workshop, and here are his answers:
Q: What was your favorite part about being a Daloy Movement facilitator in UP Diliman for this workshop?
"Being a Daloy Movement Workshop facilitator is fulfilling as it allows me to inspire and witness the creative expression and exploration of participants through their movements."
Q: What were some surprising or new feedback from students or feedback in general?
"Students often share surprising insights about self-discovery, increased body awareness, and improved mental well-being after participating in the Daloy Movement Workshop. The feedback highlights the workshop's impact beyond physical movement, fostering a deeper connection to oneself."
Q: Why do you think that Daloy Movement or movement-based practices are important for people to experience? Especially if they have never danced before or they are afraid of dancing?
"Daloy Movement practices are essential for fostering self-discovery, building confidence, and promoting body positivity in individuals who are new to dance or apprehensive about it, they offer a holistic and inclusive approach to personal growth, well-being, and self-acceptance, making them especially valuable for those who are new to dance or hesitant to embrace it. " - Brian Abano
The Daloy Movement Workshop transcends the boundaries of traditional dance, providing a space for individuals to embrace their bodies, unleash creativity, and embark on a journey of self-discovery. The facilitators play a crucial role in guiding participants through this transformative experience, creating an environment where movement becomes a powerful tool for personal growth and well-being.
