DALOY DANCE COMPANY IN LEEROY NEW'S WEARABLE ART AT AYALA GARDENS
ItikLandia
This production takes inspiration from the traditional Filipino folk dance "Itik-itik," then uses it to honor our shared connection to the natural world. Ea Torrado draws from the heritage of Philippines Folk Dances, written by Francesca Reyes-Aquino. ItikLandia prompted reflections on humanity's role in nature and the indelible imprints we leave behind.
It sparks introspection on development (for the sake of development), gentrification, and displacement.

We're humans

Unearthing (2023, Taiwan)
The process of Unearthing began nine years ago, when the piece was commissioned as part of Sipat Lawin’s Karnabal Festival for Social Performance Innovation and developed subsequently over the next two years in festivals and performance series around Manila and across Japan. The work is a choreographic exploration into the relationship between the carnal and the spiritual, the sacred and the sexual.
Through intuitive movement investigations into first the sensuous, then the ecstatic, and finally, the mythic; Ea Torrado and Daloy’s corps of dancers have assembled a fierce and primal homage to the filipino babaylan (the balance-bringing shaman-priestess) and to the ancient wisdom of the Sacred Feminine.
Performances: 2015 KARNABAL Social Performance Innovation, 2016 Dance MNL Festival, 2016 Mga Sayaw ng Paghilom Festival , 2016 Setouchi Trienalle, Asian Performing Arts Market, Japan, 2019 Asian Federation of Arts Venues, and Manila Performing Arts Market at Blackbox Theatre, The Cultural Center of the Philippines
Caburayan (2023, Taiwan)
Channeling the energy of "Caburayan," the Ilokano Goddess of Healing, in a collective tarot reading. Blessings abound as Ea Torrado share the dance in Taiwan with incredible contemporary and traditional artists. In this ritual performance, a collective tarot reading allowed Ea to connect with her Ilokano roots and express her gratitude to her ancestors. Ea offered her body as a vessel for channeled messages from 'Caburayan', a Filipino deity of healing.
